ABOUT
Keepsakes is a reflection on safe spaces. It was created by Arlowe Willingham in April 2022 as a final creative project for RELG H20: Sacred Matters - Material Dimensions of Religious Experience in South Asia. This digital gallery catalogs the objects of an environment, a dorm room desk and the wall above it. Through taking apart, labeling, and photographing each item, it celebrates joy in the building of a space through the collection of things and the people who help us gather them. Objects range from the silly and comforting to the practical and mundane. During the archival process, Arlowe painted three accompanying works to capture their emotional response. Overall, Keepsakes stands as a deep appreciation for the love and stability this space represents and the community that allows it to exist as such.
Under The Objects tab you will find the full list of the items cataloged, as well as images of each. Under The Artworks tab you will find the three paintings with more discussion on their method and meaning.
If you recognize items you gifted, made, or have memories attached to, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you. ❤️ - Arlowe
